A full day of trekking
After our first nights sleep out in the Sahara. Wild dogs coming into camp, the berbers chasing them away. Crazy night being woken up by the dogs howling!!
The phantom farter!! It rattled the whole camp. Who was it? Ellie and Leigh blaming each other. Who was having a wet wipe wash and changing their pants? Or we waiting another day for cleanliness lol
We woke up this morning to the sun slowly appearing from behind the mountain ranges. A fresh morning in the desert. Who was first to have a Sahara poo? We’ll let you guess who it was!!
Our bags packed, teeth brushed and heading for breakfast. Fresh tea and coffee, omelette, breads and jams. Thats us all ready, camels packed and off we set. Abdul leading the way.
Getting warmer now as we head on our trek, temperature rising from around 10 degrees from when we got up to 16 degrees at 10am.
Trekking together and getting to know each other. Creating nicknames for us all. Laughing so much at all our stories. A good hours walk before our first toilet stop and some snacks to refuel. Temperature is rising and now in the twenties. After our refuel we’ve set back off, another hour and a half walk and then time to stop for lunch. We approached Sid Shala a little village on our route to lunch stop. A traditional village with houses made from mud and sticks. A shrine in the middle of the village to Iman. Once through the village we continued to walk to our lunch destination.
Missing the midday sun, having lunch in the shade. Freshly prepared rice, carrots with raisins. Spicy olives and fresh fish washed down with mint tea. A couple of hours rest to keep out of the 30 plus degree heat until it’s safe again to set off again.
Another 2 hours trek. Nice walk through the dunes and along the base of the mountains. Light breeze blowing the sand over the dunes and helping to cool us down. We now head towards camp for the night.
We arrive at camp at 4:30, greeted by our berbers and camels. Quick wet wipe wash and change of shoes. Then sitting on the sandunes drinking tea watching the sun set.
Pam (the camel) had been up to no good, Lisa is trying to explain to the berbers that she’s called Pam and is a trouble maker. Don’t ask, but if you know Lisa you’ll know how her mind works ha ha
Some of us had a great chill on the dunes and the others decided to climb one of the bigger dunes and run down (looked like fun).
Dinner time, a lovely evening spent in the mess tent. All seated on the floor. Amazing food as always, tonight we had a tagine with vegetables and beef. Followed by fresh fruit and tea.
Tonight we decided it would be the perfect evening to spend the night sleeping outside on the dunes under the stars. Ask us tomorrow if this was a good idea lol.
All wrapped up in about 15 layers, woolly hats and gloves. The temperature will drop to around 4 degrees during the night.
