Our first day in the Sahara















 Our morning started early, nice 5:45am get up. Headed down for breakfast for 6:30 with everyone. Great way to start the day. Abdul arrived with the mini bus for 7:30 and off we set. Still dark out side and freezing cold. Bizarre being all this way but the morning temperates are around 6 degrees. As we left Marrakesh, we headed into the mountains, some covered in snow in the distance. A quick change as we all stupidly put shorts and t-shirts on when we got up. Well we are in the desert lol 😂 


A lovely stop at one of the highest points of the trip. Over 1700 metres above sea level. The views are outstanding. We took a few snaps, grabbed some tea and set back off. A few more stops along the way to take in the views and use the facilities (or lack of). The mountain ranges seemed to go on forever. 


We stopped for lunch around 2pm. A nice picnic in the sun. Was so hot, around 29 degrees. Sitting in the sun, eating rice, vegetables and chicken. Then back onto the bus and heading off to our next stop a few hours away. 


Stopped for refreshments and to get chech fitted (we all look like extras from Arabian nights, pictures to prove).


We arrived at our final destination around 5:30pm. Unloaded from the mini bus and headed into the desert. The temperature at this time of day had started to cool. Still warm but a comfortable temperature to walk. 


The excitement of seeing camels, the dunes that go on forever. Climbing to the top a dune and coming over the ridge to see our base camp all set up. 


Checked in to our rooms (tent) then all together for tea and biscuits as the sun finished setting.


A fantastic evening spent in the mess tent. All sat on the floor. The food flowing. An early night for us all now. First night in the Sahara. Tomorrow night we’ll be trekking around 20Km. Sleeping under the stars and laughing non stop.

So cast your minds back to early 2019, not a care in the world. We see an advert to help a local charity. Why not turn up to their open evening at a village hall. Watch an amazing presentation on this fabulous, once in a lifetime experience of trekking the Sahara. Wow!! My mind was blown away. A room full of fabulous people all wanting to start this trek. The date would be November 2020. Easy peasy!! We would be smashing this out of the park.  All we had to do was sign on the line, pay a deposit and agree to raise a certain amount before August 2020. 2 Day Project Work 24th - 25th

  Sorry not posted for a couple of days, we wanted to group these 2 days together. Big shout out to all our readers, I know we have readers from all over the world. G-Day to those is Oz.  Day 1 We spent the last two days volunteering at a local charity, so only seemed best to write one big piece on our 2 days there. So a bit of background to the charity, the charity project is called “Dar El Bir Ouai Ihssane”. It’s a huge community project based in central Marrakesh. Hidden behind the rows of shops is an oasis for learning and respite. You wouldn’t know it was there. The complex is split into 2 parts. They have this huge area for people with mental health issues and the elderly and frail. This complex has around 1000 men and 800 women living there. It’s like a mini village, with kitchens and a hospital. Physio rooms and gardens. The other part is an educational centre to help get the children off the streets. The longest day

  A fresh morning today. We didn’t manage to sleep out the whole night, the mosquitoes and the cold put an end to it. We headed back to our tents to try and get some sleep. The temperature dropped quite a bit during the night. We find we all wake up around 3 am and need to put on more layers. It’s so bizarre how the temperature changes so quickly once the sun goes down. We started to get up around 6:30, a wet wipe wash and brush your teeth. Sam showed us some morning yoga as we all watched on and felt exhausted for her ha ha . Breakfast this morning was fresh pancakes and jams. Coffee from a bowl and some fruit. Our bags packed and loaded on to the camels, we then set off on our trek.  Today was a different type of trekking, we started by climbing a massive sand dune and then we had to climb a mountain face to the first ridge. Walking along the ridge to a high point that resembled Roseberry Topping. The views where amazing, looking back at how far we had travelled. Off we went...
