Who are we??

Hey, and welcome to my blog. I’m Chris. One of a group of volunteers for Angel Trust. We’ve crazily signed up to do a trek in the Sahara desert to raise money for this fantastic charity.

So cast your minds back to early 2019, not a care in the world. We see an advert to help a local charity. Why not turn up to their open evening at a village hall. Watch an amazing presentation on this fabulous, once in a lifetime experience of trekking the Sahara. Wow!! My mind was blown away. A room full of fabulous people all wanting to start this trek. The date would be November 2020. Easy peasy!! We would be smashing this out of the park.

All we had to do was sign on the line, pay a deposit and agree to raise a certain amount before August 2020. Like, how hard could that be!! Oh how we all laughed ha ha ha!!

Then smash, bang and in your face!!! Bloody Covid!! Why oh why??

That’s the fundraising out the window, no group activities. That raffle and stall at the local fair is off the cards now. But don’t worry. We can move the trek back to March 2021. Everything will be back to normal by then, surely??

I think you all get the picture. So after 3 years of planning and trying to raise the funds, we are now 7 days away from heading off to Marrakesh. I have to pinch myself daily. This is actually now happening. As a team we’ve done so much to help Angel Trust. Through the pandemic we’ve all faced personal challenges along the way. I can’t wait to share our trip with you all. I’ll be sharing daily blogs here (Wi-Fi permitting in the desert) of our trip, the fun, the highs and the lows. The lack of toilet aaarrrggh having to poop in a hole and carry my own loo roll.

Then the 2 days volunteering at a charity in Marrakesh at the end of the trip.

I really hope you like this blog and share this around with all your network.

Watch out for the next instalment

Chris
